Vintage Hardy "The Pope" 10 ft Palakona Fishing Rod.
A fine 10 ft two-piece split cane fly rod by Hardy of Alnwick, known as "The Pope." This Palakona rod is in great condition and features Hardy's well-regarded Lockfast joint, a comfortable cork handle, full open bridge rings, agate butt and tip rings, and a screw-grip alloy band reel fitting with reversible spear and button. The rod is housed in its original Hardy canvas bag with label and carries the distinctive black spiral inscription: "#7, The Pope, "Palakona", Regd. Trade Mark".
Hardy were pioneers in crafting hexagonal split cane rods, a hallmark of their celebrated Palakona series. The rod bears the serial number H42608C, dating it to 1961.
Measurements of the two pieces, handle 1m 54½ cm - 2nd piece 1m 53cm.
