Hardy Fly Fishing Rod, The Continental
Hardy Fly Fishing Rod, The Continental
Vintage 6' Hardy Trout Fly Fishing Rod, Continental Special.
The Hardy 'Continental Special' is a split cane Palakona 2-piece rod made by Hardy's of Alnwick, it is in good condition with suction joints, screw universal alloy band reel fitting, cork handle, snake rings and green coloured Silk tyings with crimson ends. The fly-fishing rod has the black inscription spiralling around the shaft:- #4, Continental Special, "Palakona", Regd Trade Mark, 7', and comes in an original Hardy's canvas partition bag with cloth label. The split cane brook trout fly rod is an unusual rod, possibly a special order. It may have been altered and made shorter (the inscription states 7' and it measures 6') but there are no obvious signs of this, likely dating to the late 1960s - early 1970s. The butt part of the rod with a long bamboo stopper for protection of the tip when in the canvas bag.
Hardy were the first manufacturer to make split cane rods in hexagonal form as The Hardy 'Palakona' rod.
Measurements of the two pieces, handle 79 cm - 2nd piece 1m 3 cm.
