Split Cane, Hardy Fishing, Spinning Rod
Hardy Palakona Split Cane Fishing Rod - The Marksman.
The Hardy 'Marksman' is a split cane, Palakona two-piece rod crafted by Hardy's of Alnwick. Dating to 1955 (registration number H2811), the rod remains in good, usable condition. It features green and red silk whippings, Agatipe rings, stud lockjoints, and an adjustable alloy screw-grip reel holder. The 22" cork handle offers a comfortable grip, and the alloy screw reel fitting is stamped with Hardy's logo and two Royal Appointment seals - one of which is the Prince of Wales's plume of three feathers. The shaft bears a painted black spiral inscription reading: "The 'Marksman' 'Palakona' Regd Trade Mark". The rod measures 8 ft 3" in length. It comes in a Hardy canvas bag that includes two original paper labels - one listing the rod's specifications and the other offering guidance on the care of the rod.
