Antique Lopsided Henry Malings Tennis Racket.
A rare, early lopsided (tilt head) lawn tennis racquet in excellent original condition. The ash frame is in very good condition and is complete with kid leather grip. The concave wedge is stamped with maker's mark and the Royal Coat of Arms. The period thick gut stringing has some damage on a few of the vertical strings which is very acceptable for a racket of this age with original stringing. The maker is Henry Malings of Francis Street, Woolwich, probably one of the best known makers of that time.
The racket is light weight and together with the white kid grip has all the ingredients of a very early racket. Probably the same age as a Sphairistike rackets which where sold around 1874 and 1875.
