Vintage Golf Club, Unusual Shape Putter, Read Wood.
The Read Balanced Straight Line Wood Putter.
A scarce Read rectangular duplex wooden head putter with full brass sole plate stamped with makers USA details. The Linus Glover Read dual face center shafted socket head putter has a hickory shaft with a polished leather grip and was part of the 'Read Balanced series' which also comprised of a line of drivers, brassies, and spoons. The square beach wood head is nicely balanced and weighted, brass sole plate stamped 'Read Wood Putter, Patent Pending, Glover Specialties Co., Bridgeport, Conn, U.S.A.'.
It's face is flat and having no loft sends the ball away, rotating on a true horizontal axis - thus causing the ball to cling to the ground and duck into the cup - instead of 'rimming' it. Looking down on this putter you see only straight lines, this enables you to instantly get the correct line to the cup.
