Leather Ladies Archery Quiver & Purle & Co. Arrows
Leather Ladies Archery Quiver & Purle & Co. Arrows
Edwardian Ladies Belt Quiver with Archery Arrows.
A fine and complete Edwardian ladies' belt-mounted quiver set, presented with four vintage target arrows. A stylish and highly decorative sporting accessory, typical of early 20th-century women's archery equipment.
The arrows are stamped "Made in England by Purle & Co. Ltd for Lillywhites," reflecting the collaboration between Purle & Co. Ltd, a respected English bow and arrow manufacturer, and Lillywhites, the renowned London sporting outfitter established in the 19th century.
Each arrow measures approximately 67 cm in length and is fitted with metal piles (bullet-shaped target points) and spliced nocks. The fletching remains in very good condition throughout. All arrows retain their original stamped markings and present well, with the expected light wear consistent with age and use.
The set is housed in a beautiful green leather belt quiver with adjustable straps and an ornate tassel. The leather remains supple and richly coloured, while the tassel provides a distinctive decorative flourish typical of Edwardian sporting accessories.
Altogether, this is a beautifully preserved and highly collectible Edwardian archery ensemble, combining craftsmanship, provenance, and visual appeal, ideal for collectors of antique sporting and ladies' archery equipment.
Target archery reached the height of its popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian period, when it became a fashionable recreational pursuit.
