An exceptionally good red Marocco leather whist card game box by Finnigans of Manchester. The box with gold tooling and 'Whist' to the lid. The box with working lock and key, interior with dark red moriah silk. There are two decks of cards in the box.
Whist and Bridge are both trick-taking card games played with a standard 52 deck of playing cards which four persons play, two against two as partners. Whist was widely played in the 18th and 19th centuries eventually being superseded by Bridge which was derived from Whist.
