Vintage 'Kleenball' lawn Tennis Ball Cleaner.
A very good example of a hand held lawn tennis ball cleaner called the "Kleenball". The cleaner is made up of two cylindrical wooden cups with a series of short concentrically arranged bristles inside each half. A tennis ball is placed inside one half with the other half being placed on top. The two cups are then rotated against each other, effectively brushing the ball clean. One half of the cleaner has an inset circular ivorine plaque which reads 'PATENT lawn "Kleenball" tennis ball cleaner'.

The lawn tennis ball cleaner would have originally come in a cardboard box, the instructions on the lid would have read:- The "Kleenball" (Patent), A simple and effective device for cleaning Lawn Tennis Balls by DRY process. Price Complete 10'6, Extra Tins of Powder 6d. DIRECTIONS FOR USE.- place the ball lightly upon one of the sets of brushes. Close the two halves together, and give a few sharp rotary turns in both directions. Turn the ball slightly over and repeat, and the ball will be found quite fresh and clean. Of course the dirtier the ball the more friction by the brushes will be required. Shake a little of the powder supplied on to the brushes, which is worked by them into the cloth, covering the ball in such a way as not to come off upon the hands or clothes of the players.
