Small Naval Shell Case, Leather Cordite Bucket
Small Naval Shell Case, Leather Cordite Bucket
31557
Vintage British Royal Navy Leather Cordite Bucket.
A nice example of a mid-20th Century brown leather Royal Navy cordite carrier with good patina. The main body of the bucket is made of cork with a tan leather exterior and canvas interior. The sewn leather carry handle is fixed to the body by copper rivets (handle repaired). Made to carry cordite (gun powder), also known as a Clarkson case, the underside is embossed "No.66, II, B.H. & G. Ltd 3-1944". B.H.& G. Ltd shows it was made by Barrow, Hepburn & Gale of Bermondsey, London. There are the remains of the Royal Coat Of Arms transfer to the front. The second image shows this 'Cordite Bucket' with a taller one which is being sold separately.
Makes for a great waste paper bin or even a wonderful bucket at the side of the fire for kindling wood.
The last image (taken from the Handbook of Ammunition from 1945) shows the different styles of Clarkson's cases and containers.
