Hickory Shafted Golf Club, Niblick
Hickory Shafted Golf Club, Niblick
Made in Scotland, Circa 1910
Hickory-Shafted Niblick - J.E. Lumb, Sowerby Bridge
A fine Scottish-made hickory-shafted niblick, dating to circa 1910, from the heart of the classic hand-forged era of golf club manufacture.
The face displays hand-punched markings arranged in a circular pattern, an early method of increasing friction and control from rough ground and sand-both decorative and functional, and a hallmark of traditional craftsmanship.
The club retains its original suede sheepskin grip, a scarce and desirable survival that adds greatly to its authenticity and period character.
The back of the head is stamped:
"J.E. Lumb - Sowerby Bridge - Special - Niblick"
Accompanying this is an "L" within an oval, together with the stamp:
"Warranted Hand Forged"
These marks reflect pride in manufacture and suggest the club was produced in Scotland and retailed or commissioned through J.E. Lumb of Sowerby Bridge.
Ideal for the Modern Hickory Player
Well-balanced and traditionally lofted, this is a great niblick for today's hickory golfer-fully playable while retaining strong period integrity.
A characterful and honest example from the golden age of Scottish clubmaking.
