Antique Leather Fishing Tackle Case By Chas. Farlow.
An exceptional leather fishing tackle case made by the renown fishing company, C.Farlow & Co. The interior is lined in traditional green baize with lift out tray containing various contents of flies, fishing lures, line, fly tins, and lure tins, etc. The lid fitted with two wrap round leather straps to which the carry handle is attached. The case is embossed 'C.Farlow & Co., 191 Strand, London' above the brass lock, also embossed with the owners name 'Walpole. E. Eyre'. In ink written on the lid 'W.E. Eyre, 48 Hartley House, Regents Park, London' also with paper label with the same details. The interior of the lid adorned with paper cuttings, hook sizes etc. There is also a wonderful pen & ink outline drawing of a salmon (45 cm high, 134 cm long) which has scale impressions on the paper where the fish was laid and drawn around, possibly as a record to have a carved wooden trophy model made. Written in pen in the top right hand corner are the details of the fish, date and river "Length 43 ½ inches, Girth, 24 ½ inches, weight 31 lbs, March 11th, 1914, River Oich" and signed Eyre.
The River Oich is a short river that flows through the Great Glen in Scotland. It carries water from Loch Oich (to the SW) to Loch Ness (to the NE) and runs in parallel to a section of the Caledonian Canal for the whole of its 5.6 miles (9 km) length. The Great Glen Way runs between the two watercourses. The river's largest tributary is the Invigar Burn. The only significant settlement on the river is Fort Augustus at its NE end.
